Cacao Tour & Chocolate Tasting

Check-In Details

Our farm is located in the Mililani Agricultural Park. At the entrance, inform security that you’re here for the cacao tour and they will direct you to our area. Once inside, follow the posted signs.

What To Bring

  • • Water/Bottle
  • • Sunscreen
  • • Comfortable walking shoes (instead of just closed toe)

What To Leave

Please leave the spray sunscreen and bug spray in the car once you head into the orchard. Sprayable sunscreens and chemical bug repellents aren't allowed past the parking area — they're harmful to the tiny midges that pollinate our cacao trees.

Special requirements

Recommended tour age of 9 and up. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Restrictions

As a working farm, the terrain has some natural limits and uneven terrain, but we'll make sure every guest can get to the tasting platform. Restrooms have a ramp, and are manageable by wheelchair. Please contact us before booking to discuss accommodations.

FAQs

  • Can I buy chocolate on-site?

Yes, you can buy all of the chocolates we taste! Plus you get a disscount on chocolate during your tour. A few private-reserve Mililani chocolates are only available during the tour itself; others can be bought online afterward, but only by guests who've taken the tour.

  • What should I wear?

Short answer: dress like you’re stepping into a warm, beautiful jungle-like cacao playground… because you are. If you handle heat and humidity well, you’ll be fine in light clothes and sneakers. If you melt easily, go with breathable, loose-fitting clothing, a hat, and plan to sweat a little. Your guides will tell you slippahs and board shorts but they are from here and have grown up in this. Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended—this is a working cacao orchard, not a sidewalk. Mosquitoes exist. If they love you, consider a lighter long sleeve (organic and non organic mosquitos repellent will be provided). If they ignore you, congratulations—you’re becoming more local by the day. Bottom line: comfort over style. You’ll enjoy the tour a lot more if you’re not fighting the weather.

  • Minimum Age

We recommend this tour for guests ages 9 and up. Because it's a hands-on, close-quarters farm and tasting experience, we ask that guests who are disruptive or unable to stay with the group step aside for the rest of the tour.

  • Where do I Park?

Tour parking is on the west side of Meheula Pkwy. There's no additional parking past (west of) the restrooms.

  • Will chocolate be made on this tour?

We don't make chocolate on-site, but you can buy any of the chocolates you taste during your tour — and you'll get a discount on anything purchased that day.

  • What if I need to cancel?

All bookings are subject to the following policy:

48+ hours before tour start: Full refund or free reschedule.

Within 48 hours of tour start: No refunds. Rescheduling is not permitted.

    No-shows: Charged in full.

Tours run rain or shine. Refunds will only be issued if the tour is canceled by Mililani Estate Cacao due to unsafe conditions or operational issues.

If you need to make changes, contact us as early as possible at (808) 808-8687 or via email.

  • Is there a best season to visit?

Everyday is a beautiful day in Hawaii nei! Winter tends to be a bit wetter, summer a bit hotter — otherwise, any season works.

  • How long does the tour last?

    About 90 Minutes.

  • Do you offer private tours or large group tours?

Yes — we offer private tours outside our regular tour times and on weekends, including private events. Contact us to discuss what you have in mind!

  • Is the tour rain or shine — what happens in bad weather?

Rain or shine, we eat chocolate! If the orchard is too wet to walk, the whole tour moves to our covered tasting platform — a 34' × 34' covered area with an 18'-to-12' pitched roof.

  • Can dietary restrictions or allergies be accommodated during the tasting?

Please let your guide know about any dietary restrictions or allergies at the start of your tour.

  • Do guests need to book in advance, or are walk-ins accepted?

Walk-ins are accepted, though booking ahead is encouraged — tastings and samples are prepped in advance for each group.

  • Health & Safety

We keep things safe, but this is still a real working farm—so come with a little awareness and a lot of aloha.

Please make us aware of any health issues we should know about.

You’ll be walking through an active cacao orchard with uneven ground, roots, mud, and equipment around. Take your time, watch your step, and follow your guide’s instructions.

It’s warm and humid most days. Stay hydrated, pace yourself, and speak up if you need a break—no shame in it.

If you have allergies (plants, insects, food) or any medical conditions we should be aware of, please let us know ahead of time and bring what you need (EpiPen, medications, etc.).

We may be handling fresh cacao and tasting products during the tour. Please use basic hygiene and common sense—we’ll guide you through it.

Kids are welcome but must be supervised at all times.

Bottom line: be aware, be respectful of the land, and we’ll all have a smooth, safe experience.
